Narrative:
The captain was the pilot flying; the aircraft was configured on schedule and everything was normal until the gear was selected down. The landing gear door open yellow warning light remained on. Captain directed me to read and complete the QRH and declare an emergency with tower; including a request for the emergency vehicles. After running the QRH procedure I advised tower that we would stop the aircraft about halfway down the runway and once at a stop we would be disabled therefore requiring them to close the runway. Once the aircraft was stopped and the parking brake set; PA's were made to both the passengers and the flight attendants. Once airport rescue and fire fighting was on scene and the all ok was given to us an open line of communication was maintained with the passengers; flight attendants; company (operations/maintenance); airport rescue and fire fighting and tower until the gear was pinned and we were on our way.
