Narrative:
While [we were] at cruise altitude we experienced high oil temperatures of 145-165 C on the right engine. No secondary indications were noted; no additional annunciator lights were on (fuel heat not on or indicated on). All other engine instruments were similar to the left side. We consulted the QRH; but the oil temperature became uncontrollably high despite several attempts at increasing the fuel flow by increasing power and using speed brakes in order to keep the power settings high. Shutdown of the right engine was required in accordance with the QRH as oil temperatures were now 165-199 C and had been in the caution range or above for 15 minutes. We were 80 NM from our destination at this time. The subsequent descent; approach and landing were uneventful. We stopped the aircraft on the runway briefly; had crash fire rescue equipment personnel check the right engine for damage and taxied to the gate.
