Narrative:
We were being radar vectored to an ILS visual final approach to runway 32 at pit. We were vectored across final for spacing. Shortly after crossing the final we were given a right turn of about 90 degrees to reintercept the final and also given a descent from 7000 to 4000'. There was no mention of traffic. As I started the turn I saw an medium large transport at the same altitude coming towards us. He was now also in a right turn away from us. I would estimate that we came within 2 mi of each other. After we landed we contacted approach control by phone. The supervisor asked us if we got clearance to 6000'. Neither the captain nor I heard any altitude clearance except the one from 7000 to 4000'. We told him we would gladly preserve the cockpit voice recorder tape to support our story. He said that it wasn't necessary. We didn't feel that it was close enough to warrant a near miss report, although it did probably violate prescribed ATC sep standard.

Title: EVASIVE ACTION TAKEN WHILE ON RADAR VECTOR FOR VISUAL APCH RWY 32.
Narrative: WE WERE BEING RADAR VECTORED TO AN ILS VISUAL FINAL APCH TO RWY 32 AT PIT. WE WERE VECTORED ACROSS FINAL FOR SPACING. SHORTLY AFTER XING THE FINAL WE WERE GIVEN A RIGHT TURN OF ABOUT 90 DEGS TO REINTERCEPT THE FINAL AND ALSO GIVEN A DSCNT FROM 7000 TO 4000'. THERE WAS NO MENTION OF TFC. AS I STARTED THE TURN I SAW AN MLG AT THE SAME ALT COMING TOWARDS US. HE WAS NOW ALSO IN A RIGHT TURN AWAY FROM US. I WOULD ESTIMATE THAT WE CAME WITHIN 2 MI OF EACH OTHER. AFTER WE LANDED WE CONTACTED APCH CTL BY PHONE. THE SUPVR ASKED US IF WE GOT CLRNC TO 6000'. NEITHER THE CAPT NOR I HEARD ANY ALT CLRNC EXCEPT THE ONE FROM 7000 TO 4000'. WE TOLD HIM WE WOULD GLADLY PRESERVE THE COCKPIT VOICE RECORDER TAPE TO SUPPORT OUR STORY. HE SAID THAT IT WASN'T NECESSARY. WE DIDN'T FEEL THAT IT WAS CLOSE ENOUGH TO WARRANT A NEAR MISS RPT, ALTHOUGH IT DID PROBABLY VIOLATE PRESCRIBED ATC SEP STANDARD.
