Narrative:
During cruise engine number 2 failed without any warning in the cockpit other that loss of torque and np. Since the only indication we could distinguish was an eec light on; we proceeded to accomplish an eec fail procedure but reset was unsuccessful. Engine was shut down per company procedures. Since engine parameters other than torque and np were normal we proceeded to restart engine but np was not regained. Landed safely and engine was shut down again.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ATR72 flight crew experiences loss of NP and torque indications during cruise flight with an EEC light on. EEC reset procedure is unsuccessful and engine is shut down. Since other engine parameters were normal prior to shut down the decision is made to restart the engine and a normal landing ensues.
