Twenty miles from ZZZ on our way to ZZZ1; we got an avionics smoke warning on ECAM. We donned our oxygen masks; established two way pilot to pilot communications; declared an emergency; performed the smoke/fumes checklist; and diverted into ZZZ.

Title: A300 Captain experiences an avionics smoke ECAM at 17;000 FT during descent. An emergency is declared; procedures are complied with; and flight diverts to the nearest suitable airport.
