Narrative:

I was assigned to fly two different crews in 8/88. I accepted the assignment because my understanding of far 121 was that a crew member can fly up to ten hours in a 24 hour period. The 2 crews flown totaled 9.6 hours of scheduled block time. Discussion of this topic with other crew members and pilots after the fact shows a difference of opinion. Some pilots said 10 hours in 24 is allowed, others said only 8 hours in 24 is permitted. Therefore this report is being filed in case the 8 hour rule is correct.
