Narrative:
I was assigned the ruudy 2 departure from teb. I reviewed the departure procedure during the 30 minute wait in sequence for departure. Teterboro was using runway 24 with the winds out of the west sustained at 20 KTS gusting over 30 KTS. After departure; I engaged the autopilot at 900 ft and it immediately disengaged due to the turbulence I was experiencing. The printed copy of the departure procedure fell out of my yoke clip because of the turbulence. The turbulence was so severe I did not want to reach down and get the chart (as I was hand flying). Two miles prior to the wentz intersection I began my climb to 2;000 ft; I checked in with new york at 1;800 ft and new york advised me that I was not to climb above 1;500 until after the wentz intersection. The controller also advised me that this altitude restriction is important because of newark arrivals over the top of teterboro departures. The controller then assigned a turn to the west and a climb to 10;000 ft. In the future on trips to teterboro I will bring a co-pilot to share the duties and help with situational awareness; or possibly consider one of the other new york area airports with less traffic density.
