Narrative:
Taking off selected autoflight; just prior to calling 'takeoff power set' we heard a loud 'bang' and felt the aircraft shutter. We then noticed 'left engine compressor stall' and 'left engine autostart abort' on the ead. The left tgt was showing well over 1;000 degrees. We called for an aborted takeoff; notified tower and ran the engine failure memory items and the QRH. We then taxied to the gate; deplaned; notified dispatch and maintenance control.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B717's engine failed on takeoff at about 10 KTS as power was being added for takeoff. The takeoff was rejected and the aircraft taxied to the gate.
