Troubleshot auto-shutdown on APU to replace fuel control unit (FCU). Installed FCU; but had trouble engaging and alignment; which had to pull out [FCU] a few times. Oil ring [was] damaged; causing oil leak. No known factors.

Title: A Line Mechanic reports damaging an oil ring while changing an APU FCU on an A320 aircraft after trouble shooting an auto-shutdown of the APU.
