Narrative:

We were cleared to spot X by ramp control and told to contact ground. Approaching spot X I switched over to ground control and notice the captain was starting to make a right turn. The spot number is painted in three areas around the entrance/exit taxiway to the movement area. I told the captain he needs to go straight out and not make the turn but he was adamant about making a right turn. Now we were heading down taxiway J which is ramp control's area. Ground control told us we should have gone straight out like I advised the captain to do. We were given instructions to go to spot Y then join taxiway K for runway 9L. I did not notice any conflicts with other ramp traffic during this event. The airport advisory pages could be a little more specific on ramp entry and exit procedures.
