Narrative:

During vectoring by ind approach control, another flight, different carrier, had similar sounding callsign. ATC did not advise of the situation and we questioned ATC if another aircraft with the same callsign on frequency he said yes, identified the aircraft, then took no further action, as required in the ATC handbook 7110.65 to do. One callsign digd, the other flight was dagd. Believe a similar situation occurred earlier in the morning, but went undetected. We were then very alert for the situation to reoccur.
