Narrative:
I canceled flight following with approach and was notified of traffic at gkt; my destination. Previous calls to gkt unicom were made at twenty; eight and three miles to airport. Two miles south; I informed traffic that I would enter pattern on 45 degree entry to left downwind for runway 28. Descending between 2;000 and 1;800 AGL on a 45 degree angle to downwind I saw an aircraft in the left wind screen approximately 250 ft in front and twenty feet higher. I initiated an abrupt dive and flew under other aircraft. I continued descent to 1;200 AGL and completed a right 360 degree turn to reenter downwind to runway 28. I broadcast the near miss information on unicom. The other aircraft did not take evasive action or identify itself. It appeared to be a composite low wing single.
