Narrative:

I worked the training desk this afternoon. I signed into the main system with my employee number and password as soon as my trainee got the desk set up. But by mid-afternoon; one of the other dispatchers came over to us and told us that we were probably signed into the main system not the training area; because we were showing up as alternate dispatchers instead of in the training area. In the alternate area no messages would go through; in or out. So I closed my trainee's windows; and signed in with my own computer set-up. Right away unsolicited messages popped up; confirming that we had been operating in alternate area half of the afternoon. I don't know how my trainee's set-up was saved into an alternate area instead of in training; but the inability to have messages relayed from the main system as well as to and from flights is obviously of concern and could have adversely affected the safety of my flights. I tried to file an safety report on it but was unable to get past the second tab. I signed out of the safety repairing area and tried to start over; but the whole safety report was hung up and redirected me to the previous page of my original report.
