Narrative:

'Holding short' of runway 16R; I contacted the tower frequency and was given an instruction which I read back. I proceeded to 'position and hold' on runway 16R. At this point; tower contacted me saying that the instruction had been to 'hold short' of 16R and cleared me for takeoff. I was surprised by the statement. In my mental picture; I was expecting to get 'position and hold' to allow another plane on the parallel runway to take off before me.
