Narrative:
En route to lan via IFR clearance 'direct glr direct lan' at 9;000 ft just north of glr I smelled smoke. Knowing that there had been a forest fire in the area just 2 days previous I was looking to see if it might have been rekindled. Further 'sniffing' led me to believe it was an electrical smoke smell. Therefore I was looking in the cockpit for signs of smoke. At that same time I was contacted by a company pilot on number 2 com that minneapolis center was trying to get a hold of me. It was then that I realized that my number 1 radio had died and was the source of the smell. By the time I contacted minneapolis on number 2 radio I had passed glr and entered the restricted area 4201. A 30 degree turn was requested to exit the restricted area.

Title: C208 pilot at 9;000 FT smells smoke and discovers his number one radio has failed. Upon contact Center advises that he has drifted off course and is in Restricted Area R4201 and a heading is issued.
