Narrative:
We were inbound to teb about 25-30 miles southwest. We had been given a heading to intercept and join the localizer course to runway 6. We were at 3;000 ft MSL. We have a skywatch onboard and keep a close eye on it especially in the new york area at low altitudes. I had just finished arming my flight director to capture the inbound course when I looked out the window and saw us heading for a glider which was circling over an area. I don't believe this aircraft ever saw us. I don't believe he was equipped with a transponder either. I immediately took action and turned the aircraft to the left to avoid him. When we were clear of the traffic we continued on to join the localizer course. We attempted twice to contact N90 approach but they were extremely busy. I made contact by phone with ny TRACON and they are aware of the incident and are investigating it.
