Narrative:
While on a scheduled part 135 flight to chs at 3;000 ft in VMC on an IFR flight plan; I was notified by ATC of a traffic alert. When I looked in the direction given by the controller; I saw a small low wing single engine aircraft coming out of the sun. The aircraft was approaching directly from my 9 o'clock position and was less than; what I estimate to be 1/2 to 1/4 mile. I immediately took evasive action. I began a rapid decent and turn to avoid any collision. The aircraft passed within 200 to 300 ft of me. It did not appear the conflicting aircraft saw me or took any action. The remainder of the flight was continued without further incident.
