Narrative:
Cleared to push by ramp; started pushback when tug driver hit brake extremely hard. I asked what happened and he said 'a fuel truck darted behind aircraft when he started to push and the shear pin on the tow bar broke.' maintenance inspected aircraft and found no damage. A new tow bar was obtained and flight proceeded with out further problem. A sharp eye and quick reaction by the ground crew kept aircraft from colliding with fuel truck.

Title: As an Air Carrier aircraft was pushed from the gate; the Tug Driver stopped abruptly in order to avoid a fuel truck which drove behind the aircraft. The Tug Driver's quick action avoided a collision but broke the tow bar shear pin.
