Narrative:
While at cruise at FL330 the left generator went off line with the associated indications and system downgrades. The QRH procedure did not resolve the problem and an emergency was declared. Dispatch was contacted and it was decided that we would return to the departure city. An overweight landing was accomplished and documented with references from the FM and the QRH. After clearing the runway the crash fire rescue equipment crew surveyed the brake area and reported normal indications. The aircraft was taxied to the gate for normal deplaning.
