Narrative:
I was given a log write-up from a B757-200 aircraft that the first officer's audio select panel missing background lighting. I printed up the procedure to remove and replace (right/right) the first officer's audio select panel reference maintenance manual (M/M) 23-51-01-401. When I got to the aircraft I found the first officer audio select panel missing the back ground light so I removed the panel and recorded the company part number attached to the audio select panel. I then proceeded to order the panel from stores. When I received the audio select panel from stores it was the same company part number as the one I removed that caused a delay at another station.
