Narrative:
When applying takeoff thrust the engines spooled asymmetrically and caused aircraft to rapidly depart the centerline of the runway. The takeoff was discontinued [and] the aircraft probably had not reached 30 KTS maximum. We advised ATC of the discontinued takeoff and he told us to take the reverse high speed taxiway although he may have said something else; but neither pilot recalls the exact transmission due to our attention being focused on our aircraft. Instead of the turn directed we turned at the taxiway which was the closest and most available for us to clear the runway. As we began the turn ATC sent a commuter jet on approach to another runway around due to the potential for us to taxi underneath the approach path to that runway. At no time was our aircraft in conflict with another aircraft either airborne or on the ground. The controller professionally resolved the issue well before any conflict developed.

Title: Following a low speed rejected takeoff due to asymmetrical spooling of the engines; the flight crew of a B737-800 exited the runway at an exit other than that by which they were cleared; presenting the possibility of conflict with an inbound jet to an adjacent runway.
