Narrative:
The instructional flight proceeded to ZZZ with no abnormalities. Upon approaching the airport; we contacted the tower and requested a stop-and-go landing. The student performed the descent and before landing checklists; then performed a normal landing; after which he brought the airplane to a complete stop on the runway. When the aircraft came to a complete stop the engine idled low and quit.I immediately informed tower that our engine had quit and we were going to attempt to restart it. Tower said to take our time as they had no one on approach for that runway. We performed the engine hot-start procedure without success. I then advised tower we would need a tow. At that time the engine backfired and smoke started to pour from the cowling. I performed the engine fire during start checklist and then we evacuated the aircraft.
