Narrative:
Upon touching down nose gear wheel seemed to have shimmy. Held nose gear up slightly. As aircraft crossed intersection of runway xx aircraft bounced and floated. Wind was gusting to 16 knots. Reduced power to idle and held attitude of aircraft. Aircraft touched down again and seemed to bounce higher on this instance. Continued to hold power and attitude settings. When aircraft touched down again it bounced about 15 feet in the air. When aircraft contacted the ground nose gear separated from aircraft resulting in sudden stoppage of engine with prop strike. Aircraft skidded down runway about 200 feet. After looking over the aircraft I have determined that the main gear is of an early design which was found to have more spring than later design. Also knowing of the increase in elevation at the intersection of the runways I should have chosen the smoother runway. Should have added power after first bounce and gone around to land on runway xx.
