Narrative:

Center advised an opposite direction lear jet and myself of one another. I was at 7;000 ft (in IMC) and the lear was held at 6;000 ft in his climb (also in IMC). The controller then gave us a local altimeter setting of 30.34; which I acknowledged and entered. His altimeter setting was a full inch higher than actual and required me to descend about 1;000 ft to correct back to 7;000 ft on my altimeter with the new setting. During the correction; the lear queried the controller and said his ATIS reported 29.34 as the correct altimeter setting. Center than asked my altitude while correcting the altimeter setting to 29.34. During the second correction; I received a traffic warning and picked up a hit on my nose 400 ft below my altitude. As a result of the back and forth; we had a 180 degree opposite direction pass; in IMC; with approximately 400 ft vertical separation.
