Narrative:

I was departing for the return leg of my solo cross country flight. Prior to departing the ramp at I contacted ground and departure control; via radio and received clearance to taxi onto taxiway C and proceed to runway 33L; behind a civilian jet and contact the control tower for takeoff information. As I taxied down taxiway C; behind the civilian jet; I stopped at the intersection of taxiway C and taxiway D. After the civilian jet departed on runway 33L; I taxied down taxiway C and stopped at the hold short line for runway 33L and advised the control tower. The control tower had me hold short for several minutes as 2 military jets were landing. I observed the two military jets land consecutively behind each other and precede down runway 33L. I then heard the control tower contact me and say '33L'. I replied back '33L' and took that as clearance to depart on runway 33L. I then proceeded to turn left onto runway 33L and continued my take off roll. I became airborne just before crossing taxiway F when I heard the control tower quickly advise me to abort the take off. Unsure of the advisory; I requested the control tower to 'say again'; as I continued my climb. After several seconds; the control tower informed me to disregard so I continued my climb to traffic pattern altitude. I then realized that I must have heard the control tower incorrectly which is why they advised me to abort the takeoff. I observed that as I crossed over the top of taxiway G; I was at least 300 ft AGL and there was no chance for a collision. I subsequently departed the traffic pattern. While enroute; center advised me; via radio; to phone the control tower upon landing. After landing; I phoned the control tower and spoke to a controller; who informed me of the incident. I advised the controller that there must have been a miscommunication with my departure instructions as I took what the control tower said as clearance to depart runway 33L. The controller advised me the control tower instructed me to 'turn onto runway 33L and wait'. I then informed the controller that I repeated what I thought the control tower said and did not receive any correction or clarification on my read back and so I proceeded to turn onto runway 33L and take off. The controller advised me that he didn't think it was a major issue due to the fact the 2 military jets were about 5;000 ft down the runway and were clear of the runway as I crossed over taxiway G. The controller then advised me that an incident report may or may not be filed; concerning the incident. At the time of the incident; I did not observe any chance of a collision with the 2 military jets and so I did not perform any emergency procedures or take evasive action. I believed it prudent to continue to scan the area for any other possible cross traffic while proceeding to traffic pattern altitude. After the incident; I thought it odd that the control tower would have me turn onto an active runway and stop; while waiting for traffic to cross the same runway; instead of continuing to wait at the hold short line.
