Narrative:
I encountered unforecasted icing conditions after descending to the initial approach altitude for my IFR approach. The airplane built too much ice to maintain altitude and I was forced to declare an emergency. I accepted a diversion from my flight plan into another airport. TRACON vectored me to final for the ILS. I could not maintain my assigned altitude.
