Narrative:
At cruise FL400; first officer noticed that engine number 2 oil quantity had decreased to zero. Oil temperature was 161 degrees celsius and rising. Oil pressure fluctuating from 150 to 160 psi. Contacted dispatch and requested contact with maintenance. As oil temperature continued to rise started the engine oil temperature checklist in the QRH. After oil temperature exceeded the red line limit; per checklist started the shutdown/secure QRH checklist. Coordinated with dispatch on diversion. Requested diversion to a nearby airport from ATC. Notified lead flight attendant of situation and the diversion. Notified passengers of the diversion. Requested ILS approach to runway 11. Completed shutdown/secure checklist. Normal flaps 20 landing and taxi to parking spot.
