Narrative:
After takeoff we received a HYD1 low qt advisory message on the EICAS. We followed the checklist which said to monitor the hydraulic quantity in affected system. Later we noted the quantity continued to decrease. We elected to return and declared an emergency. After an uneventful landing we continued to the gate. Maintenance personnel found a leak in the number one hydraulic system.
