Narrative:
During climb; an EICAS message came up 'left engine hpsov.' [we] completed QRH checklist; declared an emergency and returned to the departure airport. A normal approach and landing was made.

Title: A B767-300 EICAS alerted LT ENG HPSOV at cruise shortly after takeoff so an emergency was declared. The aircraft returned to the departure airport where repairs were made and flight continued to its scheduled destination.
Narrative: During climb; an EICAS message came up 'L ENG HPSOV.' [We] completed QRH checklist; declared an emergency and returned to the departure airport. A normal approach and landing was made.
