Narrative:
Upon departure; passing through 4;000 ft; the yaw dampener and #2 ADI became inoperative. Given the current meteorological conditions and status of equipment an emergency was immediately declared. The aircraft was handed off to the captain and the plane returned to our departure airport for a normal landing.

Title: A Dash 8 flight crew declared an emergency and returned to their departure airport when the yaw damper and the First Officer's ADI failed on climbout in night IMC conditions.
Narrative: Upon departure; passing through 4;000 FT; the yaw dampener and #2 ADI became inoperative. Given the current meteorological conditions and status of equipment an emergency was immediately declared. The aircraft was handed off to the Captain and the plane returned to our departure airport for a normal landing.
