Narrative:
Descending from FL240 to 17000' the center controller gave us 30.53 as the altimeter setting. This was set individually on all altimeters and altitude alert by individual crew members. A further descent was given to 10000' and we were switched to ord approach control. Reporting in at 10000' we were told altitude readout indicated 9300' MSL, not 10000'. Switching transponders gave the same reading. We then asked approach for the altimeter setting and he gave us 29.54, this was then confirmed by ATIS as 29.53. At this time another aircraft checked on frequency and reported the same problem. We reset the connect altimeter setting and the flight continued to approach and landing at ord. We requested that approach control contact the previous controller and rectify the situation.

Title: ACR LGT WAS GIVEN THE WRONG ALTIMETER SETTING BY ARTCC AND LEVELLED OFF 700' LOW. ERROR DETECTED BY APCH CTLR AND CONFIRMED BY UNKNOWN ACFT ON SIMILAR DESCENT.
Narrative: DSNDING FROM FL240 TO 17000' THE CENTER CTLR GAVE US 30.53 AS THE ALTIMETER SETTING. THIS WAS SET INDIVIDUALLY ON ALL ALTIMETERS AND ALT ALERT BY INDIVIDUAL CREW MEMBERS. A FURTHER DSCNT WAS GIVEN TO 10000' AND WE WERE SWITCHED TO ORD APCH CTL. RPTING IN AT 10000' WE WERE TOLD ALT READOUT INDICATED 9300' MSL, NOT 10000'. SWITCHING TRANSPONDERS GAVE THE SAME READING. WE THEN ASKED APCH FOR THE ALTIMETER SETTING AND HE GAVE US 29.54, THIS WAS THEN CONFIRMED BY ATIS AS 29.53. AT THIS TIME ANOTHER ACFT CHKED ON FREQ AND RPTED THE SAME PROB. WE RESET THE CONNECT ALTIMETER SETTING AND THE FLT CONTINUED TO APCH AND LNDG AT ORD. WE REQUESTED THAT APCH CTL CONTACT THE PREVIOUS CTLR AND RECTIFY THE SITUATION.
