Narrative:
Another technician and I were on a fieldtrip to work on a grounded aircraft. I removed and replaced the right pitot. One of the nut plates was stripped and I replaced it with a nut. To my understanding the nut served the same structural purpose as a nut plate.I should have verified that with maintenance control.
