Narrative:
I was replacing the fuel sump water drain valve because it was leaking. Than; during replacement; the retainer clip failed; allowing fuel to exit the wing; leading up to a minor fuel spill that we were able to contained.

Title: A Mechanic reports that during replacement of a Fuel Sump Drain Valve on an A319 aircraft; the valve retainer clip failed; and allowing fuel to exit the wing. A minor fuel spill occurred in their hangar.
