Narrative:
While holding short of runway 4L, ewr tower cleared...hold runway 4L. I (the first officer) then responded, 'roger,...position and hold, runway 4L.' while in position and holding on runway..., presumably the tower supervisor then said that we should not take... I then said, 'yes sir, hold in position on 4L.' the supervisor said that there was another aircraft on the frequency with a similar...that he had been cleared into position on runway 11. We and the...had probably blocked each other's xmissions. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: reporter confirmed missing portions of his report to say his flight was cleared into position and hold on runway 4L. Tower supervisor advised the clearance was for an aircraft on runway 11 with similar sounding call sign, and to continue holding on 4L.

Narrative: WHILE HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 4L, EWR TWR CLRED...HOLD RWY 4L. I (THE F/O) THEN RESPONDED, 'ROGER,...POS AND HOLD, RWY 4L.' WHILE IN POS AND HOLDING ON RWY..., PRESUMABLY THE TWR SUPVR THEN SAID THAT WE SHOULD NOT TAKE... I THEN SAID, 'YES SIR, HOLD IN POS ON 4L.' THE SUPVR SAID THAT THERE WAS ANOTHER ACFT ON THE FREQ WITH A SIMILAR...THAT HE HAD BEEN CLRED INTO POS ON RWY 11. WE AND THE...HAD PROBABLY BLOCKED EACH OTHER'S XMISSIONS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING: RPTR CONFIRMED MISSING PORTIONS OF HIS RPT TO SAY HIS FLT WAS CLRED INTO POS AND HOLD ON RWY 4L. TWR SUPVR ADVISED THE CLRNC WAS FOR AN ACFT ON RWY 11 WITH SIMILAR SOUNDING CALL SIGN, AND TO CONTINUE HOLDING ON 4L.
