Narrative:
Received information, after landing in msy, that ZHU called our operations in msy to report a near miss with acf flight xx. This near miss was reported to have occurred at approximately 26300' MSL during our climb to FL330 while en route from hou to msy. The aircraft reporting the near miss was an MTR operating off shore in the gulf. Approximately position of near miss was 15 NM south of sbi sabine pass. We were cleared by ZHU to climb to FL330 on our cleared routing of the scholes one departure out of houston hobby airport. This departure utilizes the vuh 083 degree radial to 62 DME, which takes IFR traffic off shore approximately 10-15 miles. If traffic is going to operate VFR in the vicinity of the scholes one departure corridor, above FL180, it becomes an obvious and preventable hazard to IFR traffic! Supplemental information from acn 105670. I did not hear the controller report our proximity to either of us prior to my sighting, I'm sure he didn't.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN APPARENT AIRBORNE CONFLICT TOOK PLACE BETWEEN A VFR AND AN IFR ACFT IN AIRSPACE THAT IS USUALLY OCCUPIED ONLY BY IFR TRAFFIC.
Narrative: RECEIVED INFO, AFTER LNDG IN MSY, THAT ZHU CALLED OUR OPS IN MSY TO RPT A NEAR MISS WITH ACF FLT XX. THIS NEAR MISS WAS RPTED TO HAVE OCCURRED AT APPROX 26300' MSL DURING OUR CLB TO FL330 WHILE ENRTE FROM HOU TO MSY. THE ACFT RPTING THE NEAR MISS WAS AN MTR OPERATING OFF SHORE IN THE GULF. APPROX POS OF NEAR MISS WAS 15 NM S OF SBI SABINE PASS. WE WERE CLRED BY ZHU TO CLB TO FL330 ON OUR CLRED ROUTING OF THE SCHOLES ONE DEP OUT OF HOUSTON HOBBY ARPT. THIS DEP UTILIZES THE VUH 083 DEG RADIAL TO 62 DME, WHICH TAKES IFR TFC OFF SHORE APPROX 10-15 MILES. IF TFC IS GOING TO OPERATE VFR IN THE VICINITY OF THE SCHOLES ONE DEP CORRIDOR, ABOVE FL180, IT BECOMES AN OBVIOUS AND PREVENTABLE HAZARD TO IFR TFC! SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 105670. I DID NOT HEAR THE CTLR RPT OUR PROX TO EITHER OF US PRIOR TO MY SIGHTING, I'M SURE HE DIDN'T.
