Narrative:
I departed ramp area in biplane after clearance to taxi to runway. As I approached painted centerline having rolled approximately 150', I impacted an small aircraft at both aircraft's left wings. The small aircraft was approaching ramp area from a blind corner. The small aircraft pilot tried to accelerate around my aircraft. The ground controller had no visibility contact with this area. The ground controller also neglected to warn either pilot of oncoming traffic. Pilot of small aircraft noted he saw my biplane from the time it started to move. He also admitted he could not see the pilot and deduced I could not see him. I recommend that ground controllers be more prudent in warning pilots of possible ground conflicts. Also pilots of tricycle gear aircraft be more educated to the limitation of visibility field of view of tail wheel aircraft.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: BIPLANE AND SMA HIGH WING COLLIDED DURING TAXI.
Narrative: I DEPARTED RAMP AREA IN BIPLANE AFTER CLRNC TO TAXI TO RWY. AS I APCHED PAINTED CENTERLINE HAVING ROLLED APPROX 150', I IMPACTED AN SMA AT BOTH ACFT'S LEFT WINGS. THE SMA WAS APCHING RAMP AREA FROM A BLIND CORNER. THE SMA PLT TRIED TO ACCELERATE AROUND MY ACFT. THE GND CTLR HAD NO VIS CONTACT WITH THIS AREA. THE GND CTLR ALSO NEGLECTED TO WARN EITHER PLT OF ONCOMING TFC. PLT OF SMA NOTED HE SAW MY BIPLANE FROM THE TIME IT STARTED TO MOVE. HE ALSO ADMITTED HE COULD NOT SEE THE PLT AND DEDUCED I COULD NOT SEE HIM. I RECOMMEND THAT GND CTLRS BE MORE PRUDENT IN WARNING PLTS OF POSSIBLE GND CONFLICTS. ALSO PLTS OF TRICYCLE GEAR ACFT BE MORE EDUCATED TO THE LIMITATION OF VIS FIELD OF VIEW OF TAIL WHEEL ACFT.
