Narrative:
I was en route from I15-yip IFR flight. Plan. The WX briefing indicated possible icing in clouds and precipitation. Freezing level was 9000'. I was VFR conditions on top at 4000'. Temperature at 4000' was plus 10 degrees C. After entering light precipitation. Temperature began dropping, eventually to 0 degrees C. I started picking up rime ice very quickly. I told approach that I wanted to land at nearest airport. Approach gave me vectors for VOR approach to knox county. Approach cleared us to 3000'. Eventually, while being vectored for approach, I could no longer maintain altitude and airspeed, so descended to 2500'. Made the landing and it was uneventful. I did not declare an emergency, as I didn't feel it was warranted. I saw the problem of icing as soon as we started picking it up. I took corrective action in going to nearest airport to land. I felt a major cause of flying into the icing conditions was due to rapidly changing WX.

Title: SMA ACFT PICKED UP ICING. PLT REQUESTED LAND NEAREST ARPT. RADAR CONTROL ASSISTED.
Narrative: I WAS ENRTE FROM I15-YIP IFR FLT. PLAN. THE WX BRIEFING INDICATED POSSIBLE ICING IN CLOUDS AND PRECIPITATION. FREEZING LEVEL WAS 9000'. I WAS VFR CONDITIONS ON TOP AT 4000'. TEMP AT 4000' WAS PLUS 10 DEGS C. AFTER ENTERING LIGHT PRECIPITATION. TEMP BEGAN DROPPING, EVENTUALLY TO 0 DEGS C. I STARTED PICKING UP RIME ICE VERY QUICKLY. I TOLD APCH THAT I WANTED TO LAND AT NEAREST ARPT. APCH GAVE ME VECTORS FOR VOR APCH TO KNOX COUNTY. APCH CLRED US TO 3000'. EVENTUALLY, WHILE BEING VECTORED FOR APCH, I COULD NO LONGER MAINTAIN ALT AND AIRSPD, SO DSNDED TO 2500'. MADE THE LNDG AND IT WAS UNEVENTFUL. I DID NOT DECLARE AN EMER, AS I DIDN'T FEEL IT WAS WARRANTED. I SAW THE PROB OF ICING AS SOON AS WE STARTED PICKING IT UP. I TOOK CORRECTIVE ACTION IN GOING TO NEAREST ARPT TO LAND. I FELT A MAJOR CAUSE OF FLYING INTO THE ICING CONDITIONS WAS DUE TO RAPIDLY CHANGING WX.
