Narrative:
In 3/89 I was assigned to fly as a first officer on flight from iah to gdl. I met the aircraft as a maintenance crew delivered it to the gate. As I inspected the nose gear and wheel well section I looked down the belly of the plane to see the general condition and to see that all doors were closed. The east/east compartment access door was flush with the fuselage. During the rest of the preflight I found everything to be normal with the exception that the potable water and the lavs needed servicing. I entered the cockpit and called for the required servicing. I then went on and finished the receiving aircraft check. All systems checked normal including the door warning lights. We completed the after start checklist and again the door warning lights checked normal. During power back the captain and I noticed a high level of engine noise in the cockpit, but we both attributed it to the fact that maintenance had just finished rerigging the throttle cables. After takeoff we were unable to get the cabin to pressurize so we returned to iah. Maintenance met us at the gate and told us they found the east/east compartment access door open and that the door warning microswitch was not working. I believe this incident was caused by the failure of the door warning microswitch on the east/east compartment access door.

Title: ACR MLG MADE TKOF WITH ELECTRICAL COMPARTMENT ACCESS DOOR UNLATCHED. UNABLE TO PRESSURIZE RETURN LAND.
Narrative: IN 3/89 I WAS ASSIGNED TO FLY AS A F/O ON FLT FROM IAH TO GDL. I MET THE ACFT AS A MAINT CREW DELIVERED IT TO THE GATE. AS I INSPECTED THE NOSE GEAR AND WHEEL WELL SECTION I LOOKED DOWN THE BELLY OF THE PLANE TO SEE THE GENERAL CONDITION AND TO SEE THAT ALL DOORS WERE CLOSED. THE E/E COMPARTMENT ACCESS DOOR WAS FLUSH WITH THE FUSELAGE. DURING THE REST OF THE PREFLT I FOUND EVERYTHING TO BE NORMAL WITH THE EXCEPTION THAT THE POTABLE WATER AND THE LAVS NEEDED SERVICING. I ENTERED THE COCKPIT AND CALLED FOR THE REQUIRED SERVICING. I THEN WENT ON AND FINISHED THE RECEIVING ACFT CHK. ALL SYSTEMS CHKED NORMAL INCLUDING THE DOOR WARNING LIGHTS. WE COMPLETED THE AFTER START CHKLIST AND AGAIN THE DOOR WARNING LIGHTS CHKED NORMAL. DURING PWR BACK THE CAPT AND I NOTICED A HIGH LEVEL OF ENG NOISE IN THE COCKPIT, BUT WE BOTH ATTRIBUTED IT TO THE FACT THAT MAINT HAD JUST FINISHED RERIGGING THE THROTTLE CABLES. AFTER TKOF WE WERE UNABLE TO GET THE CABIN TO PRESSURIZE SO WE RETURNED TO IAH. MAINT MET US AT THE GATE AND TOLD US THEY FOUND THE E/E COMPARTMENT ACCESS DOOR OPEN AND THAT THE DOOR WARNING MICROSWITCH WAS NOT WORKING. I BELIEVE THIS INCIDENT WAS CAUSED BY THE FAILURE OF THE DOOR WARNING MICROSWITCH ON THE E/E COMPARTMENT ACCESS DOOR.
