Narrative:
While working radar approach control at geg, the following incident occurred. I was vectoring an mlt to the TACAN runway 23 approach at ska and an small transport for a visibility approach to runway 21 at geg. The small transport reported the airport in sight and I issued the mlt as traffic to small transport. The pilot reported the traffic in sight. I instructed small transport to maintain visibility sep from the mlt and advised small transport that the mlt would be turning sebnd. I cleared the small transport for a visibility approach to runway 21 at geg. The pilot of the mlt subsequently sighted the small transport. He later advised me that the small transport looked too close. I advised the pilot that the small transport was maintaining visibility sep from him and was on a visibility approach to runway 21 at geg. When I cleared mlt for the TACAN approach he replied that he was making a left 360 degree turn to avoid the small transport which he said was descending through his projected flight path.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACFT CLEARED FOR VISUAL APCH CAME IN CLOSE PROX TO AN MLT.
Narrative: WHILE WORKING RADAR APCH CTL AT GEG, THE FOLLOWING INCIDENT OCCURRED. I WAS VECTORING AN MLT TO THE TACAN RWY 23 APCH AT SKA AND AN SMT FOR A VIS APCH TO RWY 21 AT GEG. THE SMT RPTED THE ARPT IN SIGHT AND I ISSUED THE MLT AS TFC TO SMT. THE PLT RPTED THE TFC IN SIGHT. I INSTRUCTED SMT TO MAINTAIN VIS SEP FROM THE MLT AND ADVISED SMT THAT THE MLT WOULD BE TURNING SEBND. I CLRED THE SMT FOR A VIS APCH TO RWY 21 AT GEG. THE PLT OF THE MLT SUBSEQUENTLY SIGHTED THE SMT. HE LATER ADVISED ME THAT THE SMT LOOKED TOO CLOSE. I ADVISED THE PLT THAT THE SMT WAS MAINTAINING VIS SEP FROM HIM AND WAS ON A VIS APCH TO RWY 21 AT GEG. WHEN I CLRED MLT FOR THE TACAN APCH HE REPLIED THAT HE WAS MAKING A LEFT 360 DEG TURN TO AVOID THE SMT WHICH HE SAID WAS DSNDING THROUGH HIS PROJECTED FLT PATH.
