Narrative:

Section of 2 fgt's were maneuvering in west 291 on a routine night instrument/fam training mission. Beaver control was providing sep on a discrete UHF frequency. Flight was maneuvering in the vicinity of the nkx 250/35 using TACAN for navigation. TACAN DME was intermittent during maneuvering flight. During the maneuvering portion of the hop, the aircraft apparently drifted out of the eastern portion of west 291 into the positive control area. Flight had ceased maneuvering and was proceeding west when beaver called and said that the section was operating in ZLA's airspace. The section was monitoring guard throughout the flight, however the first call from beaver came when the flight was already proceeding back into the area. The rest of the flight was conducted west/O incident. The furthest the flight drifted according to the lead's DME was 32 mi.
