Narrative:
Air carrier flight xx departed sln en route to mci with the following clearance issued by ground control during taxi, 'air carrier xx is cleared to mci airport as filed, climb and maintain 13000'. Departure is ZKC on 134.9. Squawk XXXX.' no other altitude restrictions were imposed by ground tower or initially by ZKC. After takeoff we were handed to ZKC who asked us to identify as we climbed through 2400'. We idented and responded that we were climbing through 2400' to 13000'. Center then got involved with other aircraft. When he got back to us and responded with 'radar contact,' we were climbing through 6000'. He then questioned us about how we had received clearance above 5000'. Apparently there was miscom about altitude clearance limit or there an error in standard departure procedure for salina, ks. Enclosed is a copy of the takeoff data sheet we used which includes an abbreviated shorthand of our clearance.

Title: AFTER DEP REPORTER FLT FLEW THE CLRNC THAT THEY HAD RECEIVED. HOWEVER ATC SEEMED TO EXPECT THE FLT TO LEVEL OFF AT AN INTERMEDIATE ALT.
Narrative: ACR FLT XX DEPARTED SLN ENRTE TO MCI WITH THE FOLLOWING CLRNC ISSUED BY GND CTL DURING TAXI, 'ACR XX IS CLRED TO MCI ARPT AS FILED, CLB AND MAINTAIN 13000'. DEP IS ZKC ON 134.9. SQUAWK XXXX.' NO OTHER ALT RESTRICTIONS WERE IMPOSED BY GND TWR OR INITIALLY BY ZKC. AFTER TKOF WE WERE HANDED TO ZKC WHO ASKED US TO IDENT AS WE CLBED THROUGH 2400'. WE IDENTED AND RESPONDED THAT WE WERE CLBING THROUGH 2400' TO 13000'. CENTER THEN GOT INVOLVED WITH OTHER ACFT. WHEN HE GOT BACK TO US AND RESPONDED WITH 'RADAR CONTACT,' WE WERE CLBING THROUGH 6000'. HE THEN QUESTIONED US ABOUT HOW WE HAD RECEIVED CLRNC ABOVE 5000'. APPARENTLY THERE WAS MISCOM ABOUT ALT CLRNC LIMIT OR THERE AN ERROR IN STANDARD DEP PROC FOR SALINA, KS. ENCLOSED IS A COPY OF THE TKOF DATA SHEET WE USED WHICH INCLUDES AN ABBREVIATED SHORTHAND OF OUR CLRNC.
