Narrative:
While flying VFR in cruise flight; the emergency exit door in row 2 opened as we were approaching the south shore of the island. I told approach that I needed to divert to the [nearby] airport. They handed me over to tower. Not knowing what; if any; damage was done to the aircraft; or if any passengers were injured; I declared an emergency with the tower. Once established inbound I checked on the passengers; who were all fine. We landed with no further incident.
