Narrative:
During planning of a nyc sfar VFR flight down the hudson; I specifically asked about tfr's in effect and was told there were none. I discovered while with approach and flying down the hudson that X stadium did have a tfr in effect. I was given excellent radar service to divert toward the west; but feel the dissemination of scheduled game events must be improved upon -- allowing flight service to give such tfr info in a timely manner. Incidentally another pilot in the area was reprimanded by ATC for not knowing about the tfr.

Narrative: During planning of a NYC SFAR VFR flight down the Hudson; I specifically asked about TFR's in effect and was told there were none. I discovered while with approach and flying down the Hudson that X Stadium did have a TFR in effect. I was given excellent radar service to divert toward the west; but feel the dissemination of scheduled game events must be improved upon -- allowing Flight Service to give such TFR info in a timely manner.
