Narrative:
Cleared lvr, after takeoff turn left heading 270 degrees, radar vectors V23 sliv-459, lgh direct gmn V137 ave flight planned route maintain 3000'. Set #1 radio up on (mzb 326 degrees) V23. After takeoff turned left to 270 degrees and contacted san departure, as instructed by tower. Departure instructed to maintain 3000', then later to climb to and maintain 4000'. As I crossed V23 I turned right to 331 degrees to track V23. About 1 min later departure questioned my heading and advised that my instructions were to fly 270 degrees and to turn immediately to a heading of 250 degrees. Later I was advised to fly direct to ocn VOR, then passed to another controller. I had a mindset to fly V23 as I had #1 radio all set prior to takeoff--and most all previous flts were vectors to intercept the arwy involved. Must pay closer attention or question the instruction, but in this case I thought the instructions were to follow vectors to intercept V23. As I was attending a series of safety seminars and departing from same,I want to bring this up at next session but can't find reference in the aim--can you advise?

Title: GA SMA DEVIATED FROM CFLRNC ROUTE WHEN ON RADAR VECTOR DEP FROM SAN.
Narrative: CLRED LVR, AFTER TKOF TURN LEFT HDG 270 DEGS, RADAR VECTORS V23 SLIV-459, LGH DIRECT GMN V137 AVE FLT PLANNED ROUTE MAINTAIN 3000'. SET #1 RADIO UP ON (MZB 326 DEGS) V23. AFTER TKOF TURNED LEFT TO 270 DEGS AND CONTACTED SAN DEP, AS INSTRUCTED BY TWR. DEP INSTRUCTED TO MAINTAIN 3000', THEN LATER TO CLB TO AND MAINTAIN 4000'. AS I CROSSED V23 I TURNED RIGHT TO 331 DEGS TO TRACK V23. ABOUT 1 MIN LATER DEP QUESTIONED MY HDG AND ADVISED THAT MY INSTRUCTIONS WERE TO FLY 270 DEGS AND TO TURN IMMEDIATELY TO A HDG OF 250 DEGS. LATER I WAS ADVISED TO FLY DIRECT TO OCN VOR, THEN PASSED TO ANOTHER CTLR. I HAD A MINDSET TO FLY V23 AS I HAD #1 RADIO ALL SET PRIOR TO TKOF--AND MOST ALL PREVIOUS FLTS WERE VECTORS TO INTERCEPT THE ARWY INVOLVED. MUST PAY CLOSER ATTN OR QUESTION THE INSTRUCTION, BUT IN THIS CASE I THOUGHT THE INSTRUCTIONS WERE TO FOLLOW VECTORS TO INTERCEPT V23. AS I WAS ATTENDING A SERIES OF SAFETY SEMINARS AND DEPARTING FROM SAME,I WANT TO BRING THIS UP AT NEXT SESSION BUT CAN'T FIND REF IN THE AIM--CAN YOU ADVISE?
