Narrative:
Appropriate initial contact was made with bay approach after handoff from adjacent stockton approach. With all other xmissions coming clear, bay approach came over the headset garbled! We understood the altitude and routing, but did not hear the magic words: 'cleared into the TCA,' (which was where the altitude and route was quickly taking us). After a quick discussion with the rated pilot in the other seat the decision was made to call bay, 'would like to confirm 'cleared into the TCA'.' what we got back was a nasty, insulting reiteration of the altitude and route; no 'affirm,' no 'cleared,' just some garbage about 'how much more specific can I get?' this jerk should be asked to review both ATC readback procedures and an etiquette book.
