Narrative:
I was teaching aerobatics to a student in an small aircraft about 2 mi east of houston gulf airport. At the completion of the lesson I was asked to call approach control and speak to an inspector. I did and was told that I had not been in a legal practice area, that I was on V198. When I pointed out that I was well south of V198, I was informed that it was not V198, but an approach route to hobby airport. I have not to date found the regulation which was that approach routes are illegal, or even the dimensions of approach routes. I have since heard a rumor that I was reported from another aircraft which first thought my aircraft was black, then red, and finally white and red (it is actually white with red and blue trim). The pilot was unable to get my large north #'south. He stated that I was going straight up and down and diving 'toward' a housing development. We were across highway 146 from baycliff subdivision, but never crossed the highway and we were never over any populated area during the training flight. The small aircraft Y pilot was correct in that we were going straight up and down. Going straight down we could easily see our exact location and it was never at any time over houses.

I HAVE SINCE HEARD A RUMOR THAT I WAS RPTED FROM ANOTHER ACFT WHICH FIRST THOUGHT MY ACFT WAS BLACK, THEN RED, AND FINALLY WHITE AND RED (IT IS ACTUALLY WHITE WITH RED AND BLUE TRIM). THE PLT WAS UNABLE TO GET MY LARGE N #'S. HE STATED THAT I WAS GOING STRAIGHT UP AND DOWN AND DIVING 'TOWARD' A HOUSING DEVELOPMENT. THE SMA Y PLT WAS CORRECT IN THAT WE WERE GOING STRAIGHT UP AND DOWN. GOING STRAIGHT DOWN WE COULD EASILY SEE OUR EXACT LOCATION AND IT WAS NEVER AT ANY TIME OVER HOUSES.
