Narrative:
Clearance was to oak, depart las oasis 5-BEATTY-lidat-direct eca (manteca)-oak; maintain 15000', expect FL31O 10 mins after departure, departure control 118.4, squawk XXXX. After takeoff several different headings were given by departure control and finally a heading was given to intercept 306 degrees to beatty. We were then turned over to another controller (different frequency). After about 10 mins he said that we had crossed over another aircraft which was 1500' below us. We were at 28500' and cleared to 31000'. The controller said we should have told him our heading when we reported in. No further incidents. Further flight was as planned.
