Narrative:
I did a preflight on mdt aircraft, walkaround at xl hours just after dawn. Removed red flag on nose gear, but did not properly reset locking handle so gear was locked down. On flight nose gear would not retract. Flew aircraft to avp where locking mechanism was disengaged. I feel this happened due to fatigue resulting from flying schedule. On 5/thur/89, I flew from orf to ewn to take a 6 month chkride. I was at the airport in orf at xa hours, was a passenger on xb flight to ewn which arrived about xc hours (late). Went to hotel then to dinner with check airman and other captain also taking chkride. Went to airport and waited until about xd hours for chkride to begin. Oral was given during time waiting for aircraft to arrive. Got back to hotel around xe hours. 5/fri/89 got up at xf to catch xg flight to bwi, connecting to flight to ith. Flight from bwi broke in avp (en route) to ith and did not arrive until around xh hours. Ate supper and got to hotel room around xi, having to wait almost 1 hour for ride to hotel. Got up at xj to report to airport byxk on 5/sat/89. While this meets FAA rest requirements, actual time in bed asleep is at minimum.

Title: NOSE GEAR LOCKING HANDLE NOT RESET DURING PREFLT UNABLE TO RETRACT NOSE GEAR AFTER TKOF.
Narrative: I DID A PREFLT ON MDT ACFT, WALKAROUND AT XL HRS JUST AFTER DAWN. REMOVED RED FLAG ON NOSE GEAR, BUT DID NOT PROPERLY RESET LOCKING HANDLE SO GEAR WAS LOCKED DOWN. ON FLT NOSE GEAR WOULD NOT RETRACT. FLEW ACFT TO AVP WHERE LOCKING MECHANISM WAS DISENGAGED. I FEEL THIS HAPPENED DUE TO FATIGUE RESULTING FROM FLYING SCHEDULE. ON 5/THUR/89, I FLEW FROM ORF TO EWN TO TAKE A 6 MONTH CHKRIDE. I WAS AT THE ARPT IN ORF AT XA HRS, WAS A PAX ON XB FLT TO EWN WHICH ARRIVED ABOUT XC HRS (LATE). WENT TO HOTEL THEN TO DINNER WITH CHK AIRMAN AND OTHER CAPT ALSO TAKING CHKRIDE. WENT TO ARPT AND WAITED UNTIL ABOUT XD HRS FOR CHKRIDE TO BEGIN. ORAL WAS GIVEN DURING TIME WAITING FOR ACFT TO ARRIVE. GOT BACK TO HOTEL AROUND XE HRS. 5/FRI/89 GOT UP AT XF TO CATCH XG FLT TO BWI, CONNECTING TO FLT TO ITH. FLT FROM BWI BROKE IN AVP (ENRTE) TO ITH AND DID NOT ARRIVE UNTIL AROUND XH HRS. ATE SUPPER AND GOT TO HOTEL ROOM AROUND XI, HAVING TO WAIT ALMOST 1 HR FOR RIDE TO HOTEL. GOT UP AT XJ TO REPORT TO ARPT BYXK ON 5/SAT/89. WHILE THIS MEETS FAA REST REQUIREMENTS, ACTUAL TIME IN BED ASLEEP IS AT MINIMUM.
