Narrative:
Approximately 8 books of matches that were placed in aft galley oven 3-C ignited after the oven was turned on to cook the meals that were boarded at our 43 min stop at bos. The remaining pieces of the matches were found placed inside of the oven sleeve on edge between the back section of the sleeve and the meal casserole. There were 6 books of matches on the top shelf and 2 books of matches on the bottom shelf of this meal storage sleeve. F/a XXXX pulled the oven circuit breaker when she saw smoke coming from this oven. The fire was small and extinguished when the oven was turned off. The oven was opened after the smoke stopped. The matches were found when the oven was inspected for a cause of smoke. There was no apparent damage to this oven and no smoke in the passenger seating area of the aircraft. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: reporter states that he believes the matches were boarded by the catering service when they boarded the departure galley. He says that even though the matches were his company brand, the company no longer boards matches on domestic flts. He states that the circumstances are still under investigation by various authorities and he has not heard further details. He states that no damage was done and no extinguisher agents were discharged by the cabin flight crew.
