Narrative:

Departing tulsa for mc alester. Departure cleared me to turn to 040 degree to intercept the 167 degree radial from tulsa VOR. Upon receiving this turn, I repeated the instruction and turned to 040 degree heading. While I thought this an exaggerated turn to intercept (having taken off on 17L), I assumed this was a departure route to expedite traffic when operating to the south. What departure said was 'turn to 140 to intercept'. He said it, I misheard it. I repeated it back incorrectly, he missed it. I turned and he did not correct me until over the VOR.

Title: CHARTER SMT HEADING DEVIATION DURING DEP VECTOR.

Narrative: DEPARTING TULSA FOR MC ALESTER. DEP CLRED ME TO TURN TO 040 DEG TO INTERCEPT THE 167 DEG RADIAL FROM TULSA VOR. UPON RECEIVING THIS TURN, I REPEATED THE INSTRUCTION AND TURNED TO 040 DEG HDG. WHILE I THOUGHT THIS AN EXAGGERATED TURN TO INTERCEPT (HAVING TAKEN OFF ON 17L), I ASSUMED THIS WAS A DEP ROUTE TO EXPEDITE TFC WHEN OPERATING TO THE SOUTH. WHAT DEP SAID WAS 'TURN TO 140 TO INTERCEPT'. HE SAID IT, I MISHEARD IT. I REPEATED IT BACK INCORRECTLY, HE MISSED IT. I TURNED AND HE DID NOT CORRECT ME UNTIL OVER THE VOR.
